What do our students do?

Chiao friends,

we are here as always with a new batch of good news from KiT to improve summer days :)

This year, three students successfully completed their studies, which we supported at A-level in the past three years: Deborah, Yaely a Izack.

Fortunately, or unfortunately, the Tanzanian government re-introduce the Army program for all A-Level leavers before they join Universities or Colleges, starting from this year's finishers. All three students finished their exams and all passed very well. I will show each student's results below.

Deborah and Izack are at the moment in the army, while Yael could not attend Army due to her health problem, which we know led her to move schools after one month of study. I think the army is for 3-6 months.

We, KiT, have sent to all three students a letter indicating that they were sponsored by KiT. This letter is required by the Ministry of Education during the process of applying for loans. We keep our fingers crossed so that all three students will get to the Universities, and mainly will get a loan from the government.

In June, we sent some small money to support Izack to buy small personal (hygiene) things before joining the army. His family is very poor to the extent that they are unable to pay even for such small things. Here are the detailed study results of the whole trio:

Debora
She has the best results, I think one of the best of all KiT students that we have supported. She got Division One with five points (A=1 point, B= 2, points, C = 3, D= 4, E = 5, F = Failed). in the following subjects Mathematics - A, Physics - B and Chemistry - B).

Izack
He got Division One with 8 points in Geography - B, Chemistry - C and Biology C.

Yael
She got Division Two with ten points in Geography -C, Language (English) - C and History - D. Not bad results considering her health problems.

University Students Naomi and Miriam

Both students are doing well. I was in touch with Naomi and she sent a detailed letter of her life at the University, which I sent to you. (Could be added to the report). As for Mariam, I was in touch with her father. He told me that she is well, and he gave me her number, but I have not managed to be in touch. Will keep on trying.

Godfrey - z kraje srpna tohoto roku Godfrey dokončil tříleté bakalářské studium na Co-Operative University, obor Komunitní Ekonomický Rozvoj. Jeho závěrečná práce byla na téma Street Children. A v prosinci by měla proběhnout závěrečná ceremonie.

Some news about past students -

Agnes
Doing great at the Cancer Institute in Dar. She is studying Masters, distant studies at the University of Nottingham (if I am not mistaken). She helped me greatly with my cousin's wife who is suffering from breast cancer. She knows her stuff :)

August
Still working as a pediatrician for government hospitals. Unfortunately very low paid, which somehow disappoints him after spending two years longer in the study (medicine) than other students and being paid less. He was planning to do further studies and specify in bones (I think).

Gregory
After his three years degree, he immediately got employed and he is doing very well. As usual, those who aim at achieving quick rich, tend also to forget quickly how they got where they are. he is not so much in contact with KiT, I just asked about him and see him on FB. All in all am happy, the great results from KiT's work.

Emma
He studied Masters, and recently got promoted as head teacher ( School Director) of a basic school near Moshi. He is doing well and enjoying his job, although a lot or work.

Lydia
I think she is now the head of the midwife department at TPC Hospital in Moshi, if the not the head, quite high up. she loves her job so much a right calling for her. She always amazed me when she tells me the stories of birth procedures she undergoes and how she manages the challenges eg. women with AIDS, or drunk women, or they didn't know that they are pregnant etc. She manages all bridged babes etc. Unlucky, she is very much trying to have babies of her own and she is struggling. This year unfortunately she had a miscarriage, which somehow broke her, but she keep on going. (Sorry I went very personal here as she is my nephew... not necessary to share with sponsors).

Rose
After finishing her course she moved to Mwanza with her husband with the aim of working in the hospital but also open her pharmacy. I do not have further updates. I will try to follow up.

Enjoy the nice (hot :)) summer!

News from Naomi

Hello KiT friends!

Towards the end of the cucumber season we have for you a message from Naomi. Enjoy the reading :)

Hello,

I hope you are all doing well, to my side am doing well. This is a summary of how my first semester at the university went.

COURSE:
I am currently studying at the University of Dodoma, taking a Bachelor of Science in computer science. My course takes three years to complete and mostly focuses on programming, data structures, algorithms, computer systems, and software engineering.

LIFE AT UNIVERSITY:
My life at the university is currently doing so well that I have learned to adapt easily to the environment. I have managed to prioritize my studies most, manage my time also seek assistance, and participate well in extracurriculars to balance the academic demands.

On the other side, the issues of limited resources and lack of access to technology have been a great challenge for me and also most of the students here in general when it comes to practical learning and hands-on skills as compared to my former school. also, the delay in receiving student loans had been a great problem, but thanks to your support I could get everything well at the moment.

ACADEMICS
Concerning my academics, I thank God that I was able to do well in my continuous assessments that included tests, quizzes, labs etc., and attained my coursework for each course, due to that I was able to do The University Exams (UE) and the good news is that I passed all subjects with great grades for the first semester without having any carryover subjects or supplementary exams.

PLANS FOR THE SECOND SEMESTER:
This semester I have planned to focus more on my studies, participating in and doing research projects and/or internships to improve my skills in the program and gain experience concerning the program. I have also planned to join student organizations and various student clubs so as to find or explore more skills and knowledge and get more opportunities that come with it.

Thank you very much for your generous support.

With regards,

Naomi

Money for Izac

Hello guys!

As I've have already told you all our three A-level students have finished the school with great results. Now they are waiting for the final result report. But before getting the results they have to join the army.

They will needed some little budget for special clothes, shoes and traffic.

I think that Deborah's and Yaely's parents will be able to pay for these extra efforts. But Izac is from a really poor family and because it would be very difficult for his mom to pay for these extras he asked us for a support.

His rough estimate is 140,000 TZS = 1,400 CZK and we are thinking about sending him these money. Furthermore we were thinking about sending him a bit more like whole two thousands, cause we are sure that he will have some other small extras but he is just afraid to ask. Do you agree?

Short info from Izac and Deborah

Hi guys!

I have a message from Izaca and Deborah - they are both already home after final state exams and have finished A-Level.

In Tanzania the president had again order compulsory military service. Therefore now they are waiting for the government decision where will they be allocated.

After finishing the military service it will depend on the school results where they will proceed with their studies - somebody will go to university, somebody will go to college.

Currently Deborah is taking IT course, but Izac is at home. His parents cannot afford to pay for the courses. Deborah and her mam have sent thanking letter.
